Dr. Yolanda Jerry is a survivor of domestic violence. In her journey to overcome the abuse she experienced, she learned that there were certain things that were crucial to her healing and rebuilding her life. Here are the five things that Dr. Jerry says it took for her to overcome domestic violence:


    1.    A desire to leave: The first step in overcoming domestic violence is wanting to leave the situation. For Dr. Jerry, this meant acknowledging that she was in an unhealthy and dangerous relationship and that she deserved better. Without a desire to leave, it can be difficult to take the necessary steps to escape the abuse.


    2.    A phone call to a trusted friend: Once Dr. Jerry had a desire to leave, she reached out to a trusted friend for help. This friend offered her a safe place to stay and protection from her abuser. Having someone to confide in and who believed her helped Dr. Jerry feel supported and less alone.


    3.    A safe haven: Finding a safe place to go was crucial for Dr. Jerry. She was able to find a place where she and her daughter could live without fear of being found by her abuser. This safe haven gave her peace of mind and allowed her to start healing.


    4.    A strong belief in herself: Overcoming domestic violence requires a lot of strength and resilience. Dr. Jerry had to believe in herself and her ability to rebuild her life. She had to believe that she could create a better future for herself and her daughter.


    5.    Reconnection to her faith in Christ: Dr. Jerry found that reconnecting to her faith in Christ helped her find the strength and hope she needed to overcome domestic violence. It gave her the belief that she could overcome the abuse and that she was not alone.  


In conclusion, Dr. Yolanda Jerry's experience of overcoming domestic violence teaches us that it takes a combination of things to escape and recover from domestic violence. It is important to have a desire to leave, a phone call to a trusted friend that offered safety and protection, a safe haven where one can obtain peace of mind, a strong belief in oneself that one can re-establish a good life for oneself and one's young child and a much-needed reconnection to one's faith in Christ. It's also important to note that these are not the only things that are necessary for overcoming domestic violence, and everyone's journey is different. However, Dr. Jerry's story is a reminder that it is possible to overcome domestic violence and create a better future for oneself and one's loved ones.
